I [Settiai] didn't start watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer until its sixth season or Angel until its third. Because of this, I spent quite a bit of time searching the 'net for scripts so that I could figure out exactly what was going on. While doing so, I came across a mysterious character named Doyle who was only in the first nine episodes of Angel.

The more I read about this human/demon who was replaced by Wesley, the more I became intrigued by the character. I read quite a few stories where he was brought back to life—by one way or another—and several where he never died. After several months, though, my obsession with the character of Doyle came to an end.

Now, fast forward a year or so. The first season of Angel was released on DVD, and I finally got to see the character that I'd only read about being portrayed by the late Glenn Quinn. Once again, I fall in love with Allen Francis Doyle—meaning that it was back to probing the entire web in search of fanfiction.

While I was doing this, I came across a group of stories called Angel: The Cyber Series. In this series, which had both a gen and slash version, everything after the first season episode "Hero" was rewritten—because, in their alternate universe, Doyle never died.

Needless to say, I loved the entire concept. I even volunteered to become a writer, but everything basically fell through in the end. When it was all said and done, only six episodes were written for each version of the series—which was not even close to being enough. Because of that, I decided to produce my own virtual series.
